Erin Barker, 7G's Accounts Payable Supervisor, completed the "Challenge the Chief" stair climbing charity event at Calgary's Bow tower on May 5. Erin climbed 55 storeys, or more than 1,200 stairs, in full 60-lb firefighting gear.
Erin was one of only 10 civilians to participate in this year's event, stair climbing one of Canada's tallest buildings in the highest elevation firefighter stair climb event in the world. Erin completed her climb in just over 34 minutes, making her the first female civilian challenger to take on Calgary's Fire Chief.
As she trained for this strenuous climb, Erin took on the personal challenge of raising $10,000 for the Firefighters Assistance Charitable Society and Wellspring Calgary.
Erin was one of the top fundraisers for this year's event. She exceeded her goal by raising a total of $13,919.
The Firefighters Assitance Charitable Society provides help to firefighers and their families by ensuring they have access to meaningful assistance and resources during times of need.
Wellspring Calgary, the other beneficiary organization of this event, is a charity that provides a comprehensive range of support, resources and programs to those living with cancer and their caregivers so that no one has to face cancer alone.
